79 MPs voted for the budget, which is expected to be balanced for the very first time.
The parliament approved the budget for 2019 on December 5. It is expected to be the very first balanced budget in Slovak history, the TASR newswire reported.
The draft budget was supported by 79 MPs of 142 present, while 63 voted against it.
Originally, the draft budget, approved by the government, was expected to achieve a 0.1-percent deficit next year. However, the adoption of the amending proposal from the parliamentary finance committee adjusted the budget deficit to zero.
As a result, both the incomes and expenditures of next year’s budget are expected to achieve €37.161 billion.
The 2019 budget is probably the last one presented by current Finance Minister Peter Kažimír (Smer), who is expected to take the post of National Bank of Slovakia’s governor next year.
