New COVID-19 Guidelines Shorten Slovakian Business Hours

By: The Quinnipiac University Economics Research Team, Nicholas Ciampanelli

On March 3rd, 2021, the Slovakian government enacted a new series of COVID-19 guidelines, which will impact business retailers. These will be in effect until at least March 19th, with the possibility of a hard lockdown if containment measures don’t succeed. Many retailers, including the Billa stores, COOP Jednota Supermarkets, Kaufland shops, Lidl, Tempo Supermarkets, and Tesco Stores, have announced they will be closing at 20:00 or 19:00 following the curfew. There will be numerous exemptions from the curfew for specific reasons. The government aims to cut the rate of infections, slow the growth of hospitalizations, and prevent new mutations from taking hold.
