Increased use of digital services in Romania

Digital services in Romania increased in popularity during the quarantine. Prior to the quarantine, only a little over half of the population used digital services and the average person used one or two digital services. During the quarantine, about two thirds of the population used digital services and the average person used three or four digital services.

The most common use of digital services was for banking and telecommunications; thirty-eight percent used digital services for this purpose, including nineteen percent that used them for the first time. The least common use of digital services was for insurance and the public sector, which was used by only fourteen percent of the population. 

Mobile phones were the most common device used to access digital services. It is noteworthy that, while digital services were previously pioneered by younger audiences, during the quarantine it was also used by older audiences, likely as they were making more efforts to avoid exposure to the virus.
