Czechs Record Biggest Hop Yield in a Quarter Century

By: The Quinnipiac Economics Research Team, Christopher Longchamp

The Czech Republic is recording its largest hop yield in a quarter century. This yield comes on the heels of a couple up and down years for the hop industry. The sight is encouraging as the Czech Republic is the third largest exporter of hops behind Germany and the US. The Czech Republic will now be able to compete with the other two countries and expand into other markets once the Czechs fulfill the contracts they have. The Czech Republic is looking to expand into the Asian markets. However, if the Czech Republic cannot break into the Asian hops market, the country can store the hops for up to a year if necessary. With the additional supply of hops, consumers can expect lower prices for beer.
