Bus transport giant to expand in Poland: report

German intercity bus transport giant Flixbus wants to double the number of routes it offers in Poland and increase its fleet by 50 percent by the end of 2019, according to InvestCEE.

Flixbus entered Polish market almost a year ago after taking over the Polski Bus transport company, owned by UK’s Souter Holdings, the paper said, adding that currently the company’s Polish branch operates 160 buses and employs over 700 drivers.

The daily also reported that the company offers 54 routes between 120 Polish cities daily.

Michał Leman, the CEO of Flixbus in Poland, said that “it is exceptionally important for the company to reach residents of smaller cities” as 13 million of them still have limited access to public transport.

“We want to offer 120 routes connecting 200 cities by the end of next year,” the head of business development at the company, Kamila Zalewska, was quoted by Puls Biznesu as saying.

The paper added that in 2020 Flixbus wants to start expansion to the east of Poland, launching regular connections to Ukraine, Belarus and Baltic countries. Over 4 million passengers have used Flixbus services so far this year, and the company expects the number to grow by additional 500,000 in December, Puls Biznesu reported.
