Amazon to create 1,000 jobs in Poland

American tech giant Amazon has announced it will open a new logistics centre in Poland that will create 1,000 new jobs, the Gazeta Polska Codziennie daily reported on Tuesday.

The centre will be located in Okmiany in the Lower Silesian region of south-west Poland and will be built over the next 18 months.

Recruitment has already begun, with new hires being offered at least PLN 20 (EUR 4.70) per hour before tax and a package of benefits, the newspaper reported.

An Amazon spokesperson said that Amazon has invested over PLN 1.5 billion (some EUR 351 million) and created over 4,000 stable jobs in the Lower Silesia region since 2014, the daily reported.

Gazeta Polska Codziennie also quoted a local government official as saying that the centre is “more proof that the region is attractive for investment.”

The centre will be Amazon’s third project in the region. Since 2014, the American giant has invested over PLN 4 billion, created over 14,000 jobs, and built six logistics centres across Poland, according to the newspaper.
